Bombay Burmah Shares Surge Nearly 15%

Shares of Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation (BBTC) jumped as much as 14.65% to ₹1,635 in early trade, marking a sharp reaction to a major legal development. The stock was trading around ₹1,623, up 13.66%, at 11:04 am, while the Nifty 50 was marginally lower.

The rally came after the Supreme Court recalled its earlier observation concerning a ₹4,655.24-crore lease-rent liability linked to the company's Singampatti tea estate. The company had maintained that the amount was not a formally determined or demanded liability.

The court's latest development eased a major legal overhang that had weighed on investor sentiment. BBTC had earlier approached the Supreme Court seeking removal of the observation concerning the large lease-rent amount.

The company also reported a 19.72% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the June quarter, with profit rising to ₹288.16 crore from ₹240.70 crore a year earlier.

Sensex, Nifty Remain Mostly Flat

The broader Indian market remained relatively quiet despite the sharp movement in individual stocks. The Nifty 50 was around 24,164, while the Sensex also traded with limited movement as investors assessed global developments, crude prices and upcoming economic data.

The market is also dealing with expiry-related volatility, encouraging traders to remain cautious.

Nvidia Earnings Lift Global Tech Sentiment

Global technology stocks received a boost after Nvidia reported exceptionally strong second-quarter results, underlining continued demand for artificial intelligence chips.

Nvidia reported $96.2 billion in revenue, representing a 106% year-on-year increase, while adjusted earnings per share came in at $2.22. The numbers exceeded expectations and reinforced investor confidence in the AI infrastructure boom.

Nvidia's results also supported broader US technology sentiment, with major software and cybersecurity companies including CrowdStrike and Okta seeing strong moves after their quarterly results. CrowdStrike reported $1.47 billion in revenue, while Okta posted quarterly revenue of $805 million and adjusted EPS of $1.05, both ahead of expectations.

The combination of the BBTC legal relief and strong global technology earnings makes Thursday an eventful session for investors, even though the benchmark indices themselves remained largely range-bound
