Mukesh Ambani Announces ₹10 Lakh Crore Investment Push: Reliance Bets Big on AI and Green Energy

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has announced a massive ₹10 lakh crore investment plan over the next seven years to accelerate India's artificial intelligence ecosystem. The announcement marks one of the biggest corporate commitments to AI infrastructure in India and signals Reliance's ambition to position Jio at the centre of the country's transition into what Ambani calls the "intelligence era."

Ambani made the announcement at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, outlining a long-term strategy involving artificial intelligence computing, data centres, edge infrastructure and affordable AI applications.

₹10 Lakh Crore AI Investment Plan

Under the plan, Reliance Industries and Jio will invest ₹10 lakh crore between 2026 and 2033. Ambani described the spending as patient, disciplined and nation-building capital rather than an investment aimed at short-term valuation gains.

A major focus will be the development of sovereign AI computing infrastructure within India. Reliance plans to establish large-scale data centres and a nationwide edge-computing network that can provide computing power closer to users.

The company's objective is to reduce the cost of AI services in much the same way Jio previously reduced the cost of mobile data and internet access.

Green Energy to Power AI Infrastructure

The AI expansion will also be closely linked to Reliance's renewable-energy strategy. Reports say the company's AI data centres and computing infrastructure will be supported by up to 10 GW of ready green-power surplus, with renewable energy capacity anchored by solar projects in Gujarat's Kutch region and Andhra Pradesh.

This combination of AI and renewable energy is strategically important because large data centres require enormous amounts of electricity. Reliance's plan aims to use its expanding clean-energy ecosystem to support the power requirements of AI infrastructure.

Building India's Sovereign AI Ecosystem

Ambani has argued that India should not remain dependent on foreign computing infrastructure for its AI ambitions. Reliance's proposed ecosystem will therefore focus on domestic computing capacity, AI models, applications and digital infrastructure.

The company also wants AI to become affordable and accessible to citizens, businesses and government services across India.

The announcement represents another major strategic shift for Jio. After transforming India's telecom market with inexpensive data and widespread 4G and 5G connectivity, Reliance is now attempting to replicate that scale in artificial intelligence.

What the Investment Could Mean for India

If implemented successfully, the ₹10 lakh crore programme could significantly expand India's data-centre capacity, create demand for renewable power and accelerate AI adoption across industries.

It could also strengthen India's position in the global AI race by giving domestic companies access to large-scale computing resources without relying entirely on overseas infrastructure.

For Reliance, the investment represents a long-term bet on AI becoming as fundamental to India's economy as telecommunications and digital connectivity.
