SBI to Charge ₹15 Plus GST for Extra Cash Withdrawals From October 1: Check New BSBD Account Rules

State Bank of India (SBI) is set to revise its cash withdrawal charges for customers holding Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts from October 1, 2026. Under the revised rules, customers will continue to receive four free cash withdrawals every month, but every withdrawal beyond the free limit will attract a charge of ₹15 plus applicable GST per transaction.

The change is particularly relevant for customers who frequently depend on cash withdrawals from their basic savings accounts. SBI's BSBD account is designed to provide essential banking facilities without requiring customers to maintain a minimum balance, making it an important account for financial-inclusion customers.

What Changes From October 1?

From October 1, SBI BSBD account holders will get four free cash withdrawals per month. Once those four transactions are exhausted, each additional cash withdrawal will cost ₹15 plus GST.

For example, if a customer makes six eligible cash withdrawals in one month, the first four will remain free. The fifth and sixth withdrawals will each attract the ₹15 charge plus GST.

The revised charges apply specifically to Basic Savings Deposit Account (Branch Channel), Product Code 1011-1701, according to the reported revised schedule.

AePS Withdrawals Also Count

One important change is how SBI will calculate the four free cash withdrawals. Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) cash withdrawals will also be counted within the monthly limit under the revised rules.

This means customers cannot treat an AePS withdrawal separately from their ATM or branch cash withdrawals when calculating their four free transactions. For instance, three ATM or branch withdrawals followed by one AePS withdrawal would use up all four free transactions.

Digital Transactions Remain Free

SBI has clarified that digital transactions will continue to remain free without any restriction under the revised structure. This means customers can continue using digital banking methods rather than making frequent cash withdrawals.

The move is therefore expected to encourage customers to increasingly use digital payment and banking channels for routine transactions.

What Is an SBI BSBD Account?

The Basic Savings Bank Deposit account is intended to provide basic banking services to customers who may not want or be able to maintain a minimum balance. It offers essential facilities such as deposits and withdrawals while keeping banking costs relatively low.

Because of its financial-inclusion focus, the revised withdrawal charges could be particularly important for customers who rely heavily on cash for everyday expenses.

Who Will Be Affected?

The new charge will mainly affect BSBD account holders who make more than four eligible cash withdrawals in a month. Customers who stay within the four-transaction limit will not face the additional ₹15 charge.

Those who regularly withdraw small amounts may therefore need to plan their cash withdrawals more carefully from October. Consolidating withdrawals into fewer transactions could help customers avoid additional charges.

The change does not mean that SBI is introducing a minimum-balance requirement for these accounts. The key revision concerns the number of free cash withdrawals and the fee applicable after the limit is crossed.
