Gold Financier Stocks Extend Rally For Second Session: Muthoot Finance, Manappuram Surge Up To 5%
Shares of major gold-financing companies extended their rally for a second consecutive session on August 24, 2026, with Muthoot Finance and Manappuram Finance among the key gainers. The stocks advanced as gold prices continued to strengthen in both domestic and international markets, improving investor sentiment toward companies whose businesses are closely linked to gold-backed lending.
Muthoot Finance, Manappuram Finance Shares Rise
Muthoot Finance gained as much as 5.26% to ₹3,181 per share during Monday's trading session. The stock remained close to its day's high during the session. Manappuram Finance, meanwhile, climbed as much as 3.5% to ₹369.90 before paring some of its gains.
The rally comes after gold-financier stocks also recorded strong gains in the previous session, highlighting growing investor interest in the gold-loan segment.
Gold Prices Drive Investor Sentiment
The latest stock-market rally has coincided with a sharp rise in gold prices. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), October gold futures rose by ₹908, or 0.56%, to ₹1,63,346 per 10 grams on Monday. Internationally, spot gold rose around 0.73% to $4,636.82 an ounce after touching its highest level since May 15.
Gold prices have benefited from a weaker US dollar and increased demand for the precious metal. International gold prices also recorded a gain of more than 5% during the previous week, adding to the positive backdrop for gold-related businesses.
Why Rising Gold Prices Benefit Gold Financiers
Higher gold prices can benefit gold-loan companies because they increase the value of the jewellery and other gold assets pledged as collateral. This can strengthen lenders' collateral protection and potentially support loan growth.
Borrowers may also be able to raise larger loans against the same quantity of gold, subject to applicable loan-to-value regulations. This could support gold-loan disbursements and assets under management for companies such as Muthoot Finance and Manappuram Finance.
However, higher gold prices alone do not guarantee stronger earnings. Future performance will also depend on loan growth, lending yields, funding costs, competition and asset quality.
Stock Performance
Despite the latest rally, Muthoot Finance has faced weakness over a longer period. The stock was down 16.6% year-to-date and 18.57% over the previous 12 months, according to the latest market report. Manappuram Finance, in contrast, had gained 18.6% year-to-date and 37.2% over the past year.
The recent movement suggests that investors are closely watching gold prices and their potential impact on the gold-loan industry's growth prospects. With bullion prices remaining elevated, gold financiers could remain in focus in the near term, although market volatility and company-specific fundamentals will continue to influence share prices
