Delhi-NCR is once again witnessing heavy rainfall, a day after intense showers caused widespread waterlogging and severe traffic congestion across the region. Several parts of the national capital and neighbouring areas, including Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad, remain vulnerable to further disruption as more rain is forecast today.
The latest weather outlook from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates heavy rain activity across Delhi, Haryana and adjoining areas on September 5 and September 6. The weather department has warned of thunderstorms and rainfall, raising concerns over fresh waterlogging, traffic snarls and difficulties for commuters.
Delhi-NCR Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions
Heavy rain on Friday left several major roads and low-lying areas inundated. Connaught Place, Minto Road, ITO, parts of South Delhi and areas around Indira Gandhi International Airport were among the locations affected by waterlogging and slow-moving traffic. Commuters were forced to navigate flooded stretches as traffic movement became increasingly difficult.
The situation was particularly challenging around Delhi airport, where water accumulation disrupted movement and affected flight operations. Reports said several flights were diverted on Friday because of adverse weather conditions, while airlines advised passengers to check flight status before travelling to the airport.
More Rain Expected Today
The IMD has forecast continued rainfall over Delhi-NCR, with heavy rain warnings in place for September 5 and September 6. The region could experience further thunderstorms and intense spells of rain, which may worsen existing waterlogging and traffic conditions.
Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad are also expected to experience rain and thunderstorms. Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during intense rainfall spells.
Commuters Advised to Exercise Caution
With roads already affected by waterlogging, commuters should allow additional travel time and check traffic updates before leaving. Motorists should avoid flooded underpasses and low-lying roads wherever possible and exercise caution around exposed electrical infrastructure during thunderstorms.
The continuing rain also comes as Delhi prepares for the BRICS Summit, with additional traffic arrangements and diversions expected on selected routes.
With more showers expected through the weekend, Delhi-NCR residents should remain alert to official weather and traffic advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
