A shocking case has emerged from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, where a 70-year-old man was arrested after his 16-year-old granddaughter allegedly accused him of repeatedly sexually assaulting her over a period of around three months. Police said the teenager was later found to be approximately two-and-a-half months pregnant.

Teenager's Allegations

According to police, the teenager told investigators that the alleged assaults began after she returned to Sikandra Rao from her maternal uncle's home. She alleged that her grandfather, identified as Nizamuddin, assaulted her when her father was away at work and continued doing so repeatedly.

The girl reportedly lives with her father and grandfather, while her mother has died. Police are investigating the allegations and gathering medical and other evidence as part of the case.

Pregnancy Discovered During Medical Check-Up

The case came to light after the teenager complained of stomach pain and was taken to a doctor for examination. During the medical check-up, doctors reportedly found that she was pregnant.

Police said she was subsequently sent to the district hospital for further medical examination, which confirmed a pregnancy of approximately two-and-a-half months.

Accused Arrested

Following the teenager's statement and medical examination, police arrested the 70-year-old accused on Saturday, August 22. Circle Officer Amit Pathak confirmed the arrest and said further investigation was underway.

Since the alleged victim is a minor, the case falls under India's child-protection laws, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The investigation will determine the applicable charges based on the evidence collected by authorities.

Investigation Underway

Police are expected to examine the teenager's statement, medical reports and other available evidence as the investigation progresses. Authorities have not indicated that the allegations have been legally established; the accused remains an alleged offender unless and until a court determines guilt.

The case has drawn attention because the alleged abuse occurred within the family and involved a minor. It also highlights the importance of ensuring that children who report sexual abuse receive immediate medical care, protection and access to appropriate support services.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the Hathras case, while the teenager's identity has not been disclosed in accordance with protections for minors involved in sexual-offence cases.
