DMK President and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Tuesday launched a strong attack on the ruling TVK government following the release of Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on bail. Accusing the state administration of acting with "arrogance," Stalin alleged that the government had displayed high-handedness in handling the case against his son and senior party leader.
Reacting to the developments, M.K. Stalin criticized the manner in which Udhayanidhi was arrested and claimed that the government was using law enforcement agencies to target political opponents. He said the treatment meted out to the DMK leader reflected the ruling party's intolerance towards the opposition.
The controversy stems from a case registered over Udhayanidhi Stalin's alleged remarks during a public meeting. Following legal proceedings, he was granted bail and later claimed that he had been treated "like a terrorist" despite the nature of the allegations.
Backing Udhayanidhi, M.K. Stalin accused the TVK government of focusing on political vendettas instead of governance. He alleged that the administration was more interested in intimidating opposition leaders than addressing the concerns of the people.
Taking a direct swipe at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, Stalin questioned the government's performance and accused the Chief Minister of failing to deliver on electoral promises.
"Instead of working to fulfill promises, Vijay is happy roaming around as a mere reels creator," Stalin remarked, in one of his sharpest criticisms of the Chief Minister since the TVK government assumed office.
The statement has intensified the ongoing political rivalry between the DMK and the ruling TVK. The two parties have frequently exchanged allegations over governance, law and order, and the functioning of state institutions.
The remarks also come amid heightened political tensions surrounding the case involving Udhayanidhi Stalin. While the ruling side has defended the legal proceedings as being carried out according to the law, the DMK has maintained that the case is politically motivated and intended to suppress dissent.
Stalin's criticism has sparked widespread discussion across political circles and social media, with supporters of both parties reacting strongly to his comments.
