Who Was Nazia Khanam?

Nazia Khanam was employed as an Assistant Section Officer in the Defence Ministry. According to reports, she married Mohammad Azam Ali Khan on April 11, 2026, around four months before her death. Police said the couple was living together in Dwarka.

Her family has alleged that Nazia had repeatedly spoken to them about problems in her matrimonial home. They claimed she complained of verbal abuse, physical assault and threats allegedly involving her husband and members of his family. These allegations are part of the ongoing investigation and have not been established in court.

What Happened in Dwarka?

Delhi Police received information about the incident on August 21. According to the husband's account reported by police, the couple had an argument after returning from a hospital visit. He said Nazia locked herself in another room and was later found hanging.

Nazia's family has disputed the circumstances surrounding her death and expressed suspicion about whether the incident was actually a suicide. They have requested that the post-mortem examination be videographed and that evidence from the scene be preserved.

Husband and In-Laws Booked

Following a subsequent complaint from Nazia's family, Delhi Police registered a case under Sections 85 and 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to cruelty by a husband or his relatives and abetment of suicide. The family has also sought the addition of the provision relating to dowry death.

Police are examining the allegations, statements from family members and other evidence. The exact circumstances surrounding Nazia's death remain under investigation.

Family Seeks Detailed Investigation

The case has raised questions because of the allegations made by Nazia's family and the differing accounts surrounding the incident. Her relatives have sought legal action against her husband and in-laws and have called for careful preservation and examination of evidence.

The allegations against the husband and in-laws remain allegations at this stage. The investigation, post-mortem findings and other evidence will be important in establishing what happened.
