Ayodhya witnessed a spectacular blend of faith and science during this year’s Ram Navami celebrations as the Surya Tilak ritual illuminated the idol of Ram Lalla inside the newly consecrated temple. Engineers from IIT designed a sophisticated arrangement of mirrors and lenses to channel the sun’s rays directly onto the idol, bathing it in golden light for several minutes on March 27.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi watched the ceremony live from his office, folding his hands in prayer and later sharing photographs online. The event drew an estimated 300,000 devotees to Ayodhya, where processions, prayers, and cultural programs marked the festival.
Prominent leaders and industrialists also praised the occasion. Gautam Adani and N. Chandrababu Naidu lauded the innovative fusion of tradition and technology, calling it a milestone in India’s cultural heritage. Their remarks highlighted how the ritual symbolizes not only devotion but also India’s ability to integrate modern engineering into age-old practices.
This was the third Surya Tilak ceremony since the temple’s consecration in January 2024, and it has quickly become a defining feature of Ram Navami celebrations in Ayodhya. The ritual underscores the temple’s role as both a spiritual and cultural landmark, where science and devotion converge to create a moment of profound significance for millions of worshippers.
