Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): In a stark reminder of the perils of oversharing wealth on social media, a homemaker-cum-YouTuber's lavish display of gold jewellery, cash, and a luxury lifestyle proved to be an open invitation for real-world criminals. Unidentified burglars broke into her house in Mohani village, locked the entire family inside a room, and decamped with valuables worth approximately ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday in Mohani village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Narwar police station in Shivpuri district. The victim, Rachna Gurjar, who runs a YouTube channel showcasing her affluent lifestyle, found herself and her family trapped as the burglars executed their plan with chilling precision.
According to Gurjar's complaint, the burglars entered the house around 2 am while the family was fast asleep. "They locked us inside the room and then committed the burglary. They took away gold jewellery, silver ornaments, cash, and even a carton of energy drink," she said.
The stolen items include precious gold and silver jewellery accumulated over years, along with cash. The total estimated value ranges between ₹8 lakh and ₹10 lakh. In a move that suggests prior surveillance or meticulous planning, the burglars also tampered with the CCTV cameras installed on the premises.
"They changed the angles of the CCTV cameras, possibly using a lathi (stick), so that their faces were not recorded," Gurjar added, expressing shock at how the intruders managed to avoid being captured on video.
The family remained unaware of the burglary until around 4 am, when they woke up and discovered that their room had been locked from the outside. Panic set in as they realized they were trapped. They immediately called relatives, who rushed to the house, broke open the lock, and rescued them.
A police team from Narwar police station has since visited the site and registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on Gurjar's complaint. "We are scanning the available CCTV footage from the area and nearby establishments. The tampered cameras are being examined forensically to see if any digital evidence can be retrieved," a police official said.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of an inside role or someone from the village who had been following Gurjar's social media content. Her YouTube channel frequently features videos of jewellery hauls, cash counting, and glimpses of a high-end lifestyle—content that may have inadvertently marked her home as a target.
This incident serves as a cautionary tale for social media influencers who showcase wealth online, as digital footprints can quickly translate into physical threats. Police have advised citizens to avoid displaying valuable assets publicly on social media platforms.
