Apple Cuts Jobs in Siri, Vision Pro Immersive Video and Gaming Teams
Apple has cut more than 200 jobs across teams working on Siri, Vision Pro and artificial intelligence software, in a restructuring that signals a shift in the company's priorities toward next-generation AI technology and smart glasses. The changes reportedly affect around 100 positions in the Vision Pro organisation and another 100 across Siri and related software teams.
The restructuring comes as Apple prepares to develop a new generation of AI-powered products while reassessing its strategy for spatial computing. The company has said that the changes are intended to realign teams and improve the experiences it delivers to users.
Vision Pro Teams Face Major Changes
One of the biggest changes involves Apple's Vision Pro organisation. The company is reportedly largely eliminating its internal Vision Pro gaming team and reducing staff working on immersive video content. The move reflects the challenges Apple has faced in building a large audience for the high-priced Vision Pro headset.
Apple's immersive video projects have offered users highly detailed spatial experiences, but producing this type of content can be expensive. With Vision Pro adoption remaining limited, the company appears to be reassessing how much first-party content it should produce internally.
Despite the job cuts, Apple has indicated that Vision Pro and visionOS are not being discontinued. The company is instead shifting its near-term attention toward other types of devices, particularly smart glasses.
Siri Team Also Restructured
The job cuts also affect Apple's Siri and software engineering groups. Around 100 positions are reportedly being eliminated across Siri and related software teams.
The restructuring is connected to Apple's development of a new AI-powered Siri based on a different technical architecture. That transition requires different engineering expertise, prompting Apple to reorganise existing teams and eliminate some roles while creating new positions.
Apple is also changing its Intelligent Systems Experience organisation, which works on AI-powered features across the company's devices.
