Sharmistha Bhowmik Roy is married to Subhranshu Roy, the former Bijpur MLA and son of veteran politician Mukul Roy. She had travelled to Nepal as part of a pilgrimage journey towards Kailash Mansarovar.
According to reports, Sharmistha left Kolkata on August 21, 2026, as part of a group organised by a travel agency. The group reportedly consisted of 32 people who were travelling towards the Kailash-Mansarovar region.
Last Contact With Her Husband
Family members said Sharmistha last spoke to her husband on the night of August 25. She reportedly informed him that she was in the Kyirong area near the Nepal-Tibet border.
Communication was lost after severe flash floods hit the region the following morning. Her name was subsequently reported on the missing list, leaving the family anxiously waiting for information about her whereabouts.
Husband Travels to Nepal
Subhranshu Roy has been trying to find information about his wife following the disaster. Reports said he was seeking assistance from authorities and the Indian diplomatic mission as rescue efforts continued.
The family has also been in contact with officials as search operations face significant challenges because roads, bridges and communication networks in several affected areas have been damaged.
