Former Governor and Veteran Politician Satyapal Malik Passes Away at 79

New Delhi, August 5, 2025 – Satyapal Malik, the outspoken former Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and a seasoned political figure, passed away today at the age of 79. He breathed his last at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi, where he had been undergoing treatment for multiple health complications since May.

 Health Complications and Final Moments

Hospital sources confirmed that Malik had been admitted on May 11 with severe urinary tract infection, diabetes-related kidney issues, hypertension, and other chronic ailments. Despite intensive care and multiple dialysis sessions, his condition deteriorated. He was declared dead at 1:12 PM this afternoon.

A Political Journey of Many Turns

Born in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, Malik began his political career in the 1970s and served in various parties including Lok Dal, Congress, and BJP. He held gubernatorial positions in Bihar, Goa, Meghalaya, and most notably Jammu & Kashmir, where he oversaw the controversial abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Fearless Voice in Indian Politics

Satyapal Malik was known for his candor and courage. He frequently criticized the Modi government, especially over the handling of the Pulwama attack and the farmers’ protests. His bold statements often placed him at odds with the establishment, earning him a reputation as a “troublesome truth-teller” in political circles.

 Final Rites

His mortal remains will be taken to his residence in RK Puram, Delhi. The cremation is scheduled for tomorrow at the Lodhi Road crematorium.
