Rana Daggubati: No Body Is Forcing You, Deepika Padukone!! On Exit Of Spirit Movie

Deepika Padukone’s Exit Sparks Industry Discussion

Tollywood star Rana Daggubati has joined the ongoing debate surrounding work-life balance in the Indian film industry, following Deepika Padukone’s reported exit from Spirit. The actress allegedly opted out of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film due to disagreements over working hours and remuneration. Reports suggest that Deepika demanded an eight-hour workday, a profit-sharing deal, and refused to deliver her dialogues in Telugu, leading to contractual conflicts.

Rana Daggubati’s Perspective on Work Culture

In an interview with The Lallantop, Rana Daggubati shared his views on the practicality of implementing uniform work schedules in Indian cinema. He emphasized that India is still a developing country, stating, “We should understand that India is a developing country. We are not a developed nation. Our economy is probably 186th in the world if you look at per capita income. So to me, it is not work, it is a lifestyle”. He highlighted the regional differences in work culture, explaining that Maharashtra follows a 12-hour shift, while Telugu cinema operates on an 8-hour schedule starting at 7 AM.

Actors’ Choice in Work-Life Balance

Rana further elaborated on the physical and mental toll of extended shooting schedules, stating that actors have the freedom to choose their work hours. He remarked, “Nobody is forcing anybody. It’s a job. It’s a choice. Everyone has their own opinion on what’s important to them. There are actors who only work four hours a day — that’s their system”. His comments have added a new dimension to the ongoing debate, with industry professionals weighing in on the need for structured work hours versus the flexibility required in filmmaking.
