The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has unveiled ambitious plans to expand Bengaluru’s iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, aiming to boost its seating capacity from 34,000 to 54,000. On Sunday, the association issued an Expression of Interest inviting redesign proposals that include structural upgrades, fan zones, improved crowd flow, and enhanced parking facilities. This expansion marks one of the most significant upgrades in the stadium’s history, reflecting the growing demand for cricket in India’s tech capital.
KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad emphasized that the project has been a decade-long dream, with a clear focus on putting fans first. Drawing inspiration from the successful renovations of Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Prasad highlighted the need for Bengaluru to match the standards of India’s other cricketing landmarks. The expansion is expected to create a more immersive atmosphere, ensuring spectators enjoy both comfort and electrifying energy during matches.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) supporters are particularly excited, anticipating a louder and more vibrant environment for Virat Kohli and his team. The additional 20,000 seats promise to transform the stadium into one of the most formidable venues in the country, amplifying the roar of fans during IPL and international fixtures. However, skeptics have raised concerns about the feasibility of such a massive expansion in a tightly packed urban setting.
