Bengaluru, June 3: Exactly one year ago, Royal Challengers Bengaluru did the unthinkable. They ended an 18-year jinx. And then, just last weekend, they did it again. The franchise is now celebrating not one, but two consecutive IPL titles—a feat achieved by only three teams in the tournament's history.
The Night the Curse Broke
It was June 3, 2025, when RCB finally silenced their critics. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, they defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in a nerve-shredding final. Virat Kohli, the man who had carried the team's hopes for nearly two decades, played a gritty knock of 43 runs. But it was Krunal Pandya who turned the game with the ball, returning figures of 2 for 17 in a low-scoring thriller.
When the last wicket fell, the celebration was not just about a trophy. It was about release. Years of "Ee Sala Cup Namde" trolling finally transformed into genuine euphoria.
Back-to-Back Glory
The joy, however, did not stop there. Last weekend, RCB returned to the same stage and defended their crown. Under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar, they chased down Gujarat Titans' total of 155 with ease. Kohli, once again, stood tall—this time with an unbeaten 75 that sealed the victory.
With that win, RCB became only the third team in IPL history to win back-to-back titles, joining the elite company of Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
A Year of Sweet Memories
As the one-year anniversary of that first title coincided with the freshness of the second, fans and players flooded social media with nostalgic memories. What was once a franchise defined by near-misses and heartbreaks has now become the envy of the IPL.
For the RCB faithful, the past 12 months have been nothing short of a dream. And if this form continues, the dynasty may only just be beginning.
