On Monday, August 24, three entities linked to Y Combinator sold a combined 4.85 crore Meesho shares at ₹200.01 per share. The transaction represented approximately 1.05% of Meesho’s equity and was executed through block deals on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Who Bought Meesho Shares?

The large transaction attracted several major financial institutions. Nippon India Mutual Fund emerged as the biggest disclosed buyer, purchasing around 1 crore shares for approximately ₹200 crore.

HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company acquired 75 lakh shares, while Edelweiss Mutual Fund bought around 34.7 lakh shares. Franklin Templeton also participated in the transaction.

Several international financial institutions were also among the buyers. These included Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Societe Generale and BNP Paribas, highlighting institutional interest in Meesho following its listing.

The participation of major global investment firms and domestic mutual funds makes the transaction notable for India's new-age technology sector.

Y Combinator’s Meesho Stake Sale

The shares were sold by Y Combinator Continuity Holdings I LLC, YCS16 Holdings LLC and YCVC Fund I LP. Together, the entities sold 4.85 crore shares at ₹200.01 apiece, generating proceeds of roughly ₹970 crore.

The transaction price was below Meesho's NSE closing price of around ₹205.07 on Monday. The stock opened at ₹207.24 and moved between ₹212.65 and ₹201.50 during the trading session before closing lower.

The stake sale comes shortly after Y Combinator also sold shares in Groww, another major Indian technology company. On August 18, Y Combinator-linked entities sold a stake in Groww worth approximately ₹1,435 crore.

Meesho’s Recent Financial Performance

The stake sale comes as Meesho continues to expand its business. The company reported a 48% year-on-year increase in revenue to ₹3,712.8 crore in the first quarter, while its net loss narrowed to ₹132.8 crore from ₹289.4 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The latest block deal therefore represents an important transaction for Meesho's shareholder base. While Y Combinator has reduced its holding, the participation of major institutional investors demonstrates continued interest in the e-commerce company's listed equity.

For investors, the transaction will likely remain a key development to watch as Meesho continues its growth strategy and works toward improving profitability in India's competitive e-commerce market.
