Infosys Public Services CEO Lax Gopisetty is currently unreachable following the devastating floods in Nepal, Infosys confirmed on Friday, August 28. The technology major said Gopisetty was visiting the region in a personal capacity when the disaster struck.
In a statement, Infosys said its immediate priority is ensuring Gopisetty's safety and well-being. The company is working with relevant agencies to gather information and establish contact with him.
“We remain in close communication with the family and are providing all necessary support during this difficult time,” Infosys said, while expressing concern for Gopisetty and everyone affected by the disaster.
Who Is Lax Gopisetty?
Lax Gopisetty is the CEO of Infosys Public Services, a subsidiary of Infosys focused primarily on serving public-sector organisations in the United States and Canada.
In his current role, Gopisetty oversees the company's strategy and execution and advises public-sector organisations on technology, operations and transformation. He has more than three decades of experience spanning government, healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, utilities, education and insurance.
Before becoming CEO of Infosys Public Services, Gopisetty served as a Global Vice President at Infosys, where he headed its Business Applications and Digital Workspace Services business. Earlier in his career, he held senior positions at Accenture and worked with organisations including BearingPoint, IBM, PwC and HCL.
Devastating Nepal Floods
Gopisetty's disappearance comes amid one of the most severe disasters to hit Nepal in recent years. Catastrophic flash floods swept through areas along the Nepal-China border, destroying roads, bridges, villages and infrastructure.
The disaster was linked to a glacial collapse and massive debris flow, which sent torrents of water, rock and ice through Himalayan valleys. Rescue operations remain challenging because of damaged infrastructure, communication disruptions and the threat of additional flooding.
The scale of the disaster has also affected hundreds of Indian nationals. The Ministry of External Affairs said 320 Indian nationals remained uncontactable on Friday, while hundreds of Indians stranded on the Chinese side were reported safe.
Authorities have deployed thousands of security personnel for search-and-rescue operations, while helicopters and other emergency resources are being used to evacuate survivors.
Infosys Supporting Gopisetty’s Family
As the search continues, Infosys has said it remains in close contact with Gopisetty's family and is providing all necessary support.
The company has not provided further details about his whereabouts or circumstances, and being unreachable does not mean that he has been confirmed missing or dead. Efforts to establish contact are ongoing.
With rescue operations continuing across the flood-hit region, the immediate focus remains on locating Gopisetty and ensuring his safety.
