The Tata Sierra 7-seater could become one of the most interesting additions to Tata Motors' SUV portfolio. While the company has not officially confirmed the launch, a longer three-row Sierra is reportedly under evaluation. The existing Sierra's ARGOS platform is designed to support different wheelbases and body configurations, making a seven-seat version technically feasible.
1. Longer Body With Three-Row Seating
The biggest change is expected to be the addition of a third row. The Sierra 7-seater could feature a longer rear section and potentially a longer wheelbase to accommodate seven occupants comfortably.
Tata could also offer both six- and seven-seat configurations, with captain's chairs in the second row for buyers prioritising comfort.
2. Premium Sierra-Inspired Cabin
The upcoming SUV is expected to retain much of the current Sierra's premium cabin theme. The existing model features a triple-screen dashboard, including a 10.25-inch driver's display and dual 12.3-inch screens.
Other expected features could include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera and a premium JBL audio system.
3. More Powerful Engine Options
A larger seven-seater could require stronger powertrain options. The Sierra-based model is expected to use Tata's 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, which produces around 158 bhp and 255 Nm.
The 2.0-litre diesel engine currently used in the Harrier and Safari could also make sense for the larger Sierra, offering 170 bhp and 350 Nm.
4. Strong Safety Package
Safety is expected to remain a major selling point. The existing Sierra offers six airbags, Level 2 ADAS, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and a 360-degree camera.
The seven-seater could carry forward or further enhance these features, potentially making it a strong family-focused SUV.
5. Multiple Powertrain Choices
One of the biggest advantages of Tata's ARGOS architecture is its flexibility. The platform can support petrol, diesel, CNG, hybrid and electric powertrains, while also accommodating AWD hardware.
A Sierra 7-seater EV could therefore be possible in the future, while petrol and diesel versions would give Tata greater reach across the three-row SUV segment.
Expected Launch
Tata Motors has not officially confirmed a launch date for the Sierra 7-seater. Reports suggest that, if approved, it could arrive around late 2027. It would potentially compete with the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV 7XO and MG Hector, while giving Tata a distinctive alternative in the three-row SUV market.
