India’s telecommunications sector continued to expand in July 2026, with the country’s overall telecom subscriber base crossing the 1.35-billion mark. The latest figures highlight the continued dominance of major operators such as Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, while Vodafone Idea and BSNL maintain significant subscriber bases.
According to the latest figures, Jio remained India’s largest telecom operator with 535.12 million subscribers, followed by Airtel with 384.23 million.
Jio Maintains Top Position
Reliance Jio continued to lead India's telecom market in July with a subscriber base of 535.12 million.
Jio's strong position has been supported by its extensive 4G and 5G network, competitive plans and growing digital ecosystem. The company has also been expanding its 5G services across India, strengthening its position in both urban and emerging markets.
With more than 535 million subscribers, Jio remains comfortably ahead of its major competitors.
Airtel Holds Second Position
Bharti Airtel had approximately 384.23 million subscribers in July 2026, keeping it firmly in second place.
Airtel has continued investing heavily in its 5G network and network infrastructure while focusing on premium customers and improving average revenue per user.
The gap between Jio and Airtel remains substantial, although Airtel continues to be one of the strongest competitors in India's highly competitive telecom market.
Vodafone Idea and BSNL Subscriber Base
Vodafone Idea (Vi) recorded approximately 129.96 million subscribers during the month.
The company continues to focus on strengthening its network and improving its financial position as it competes with Jio and Airtel.
Meanwhile, BSNL had around 27.28 million subscribers. The state-owned telecom operator has been working on expanding its indigenous 4G network and preparing for broader 5G deployment.
