Google has announced a major back-to-college offer that gives eligible students in India one year of Google AI Plus free of charge. The initiative is part of Google's global push to make its advanced artificial intelligence tools more accessible to students as they begin a new academic year. The offer includes premium Gemini features, additional cloud storage and new AI-powered study tools.
For eligible students outside the United States, including those in India, Google is offering the Google AI Plus plan for 12 months at no cost. The plan normally costs ₹399 per month in India, making the annual value approximately ₹4,788. Students can get access to Gemini Omni, twice the usage limits available to free users and 400GB of cloud storage across Google services.
What Do Indian Students Get?
The free AI Plus membership provides access to several advanced Gemini capabilities. Students receive higher usage limits, Gemini Omni and additional AI features designed for productivity, creativity and education. The 400GB storage allowance can also be used across services including Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.
Google has also introduced a new Student Hub within Gemini. The hub is designed to bring study-related tools together in one place, allowing students to organise coursework, create flashcards and prepare practice quizzes. Students can also create customised study notebooks that break down complex subjects into smaller lessons.
AI Tools for Research and Exam Preparation
The new student-focused features go beyond basic question-and-answer functions. Gemini can help students turn class notes and documents into study guides, generate practice tests and create audio-based overviews of learning material. Google is also adding interactive visualisations and 3D elements that can help students understand difficult concepts more easily.
The tools could be particularly useful for research and exam preparation. Students can use Gemini to organise information, explore topics, review notes and practise questions. However, AI-generated answers should still be checked against reliable academic sources before being used in assignments or research.
How Is the Offer Different in the US?
Google's student promotion varies by market. Eligible college students in the United States receive one year of Google AI Pro, which is a higher-tier plan normally priced at $19.99 per month. It includes higher Gemini usage limits and 5TB of storage. Students in India and more than 140 other markets receive Google AI Plus instead.
Google has also announced discounts of up to 70% on certain bundles involving Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium in selected markets.
For Indian college students, the offer provides an opportunity to access premium AI tools without paying the regular monthly subscription cost.
