Knowledge Marine Stock Surges 10%: Small-Cap Stock Gives 210% Return in One Year

Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works Ltd. has emerged as a major performer in the small-cap segment, with its shares delivering a staggering 210.5% return over the past 12 months. The stock was trading around Rs 2,800 on the NSE on August 17, 2026, after gaining sharply during Monday's session. The company's strong first-quarter financial performance has been one of the key factors supporting investor interest in the stock.

During Monday's trading session, Knowledge Marine shares climbed as much as 10% to Rs 2,999.90 before giving up some of those gains. Later, the stock was trading about 2.6% higher at Rs 2,800.90 apiece. Based on the company's previous price of around Rs 901 a year earlier, investors who held the stock throughout the period have seen their investment more than triple.

The latest rally comes after the company reported a strong performance for the first quarter of financial year 2027. Knowledge Marine's consolidated net profit jumped 440.9% year-on-year to Rs 61.7 crore, compared with Rs 11.4 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The sharp rise in profitability has strengthened the company's growth story and helped attract market attention.

Revenue also registered substantial growth during the quarter. The company's consolidated revenue increased 137.9% year-on-year to Rs 115.4 crore, compared with Rs 48.5 crore a year earlier. EBITDA rose 267% to Rs 73.4 crore from Rs 20 crore, while the EBITDA margin improved significantly to 63.6%, compared with 41.2% in the corresponding period last year.

Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works, incorporated in 2015, operates in the marine infrastructure space. Its business includes dredging services, ownership and operation of marine craft, and repair, maintenance and refitting of marine vessels and marine infrastructure. The company has also reported a strong long-term profit-growth record, with profit growth of 64.5% CAGR over the past five years. Its three-year return on equity stood at 21.6%, according to the data cited by NDTV Profit.

Despite the impressive gains, the stock also carries valuation and ownership-related factors that investors need to consider. According to Screener data cited in the report, Knowledge Marine was trading at 11.7 times its book value, while promoter holding had declined by nearly 4% over the previous quarter. These factors highlight why strong price performance alone may not be sufficient for evaluating the company's future prospects.

Market participants are nevertheless optimistic, with Vikram Datwani of Nuvama Securities maintaining a buy call on the shares. The combination of strong earnings, improving margins and significant historical returns has kept Knowledge Marine in focus among investors tracking high-growth small-cap stocks. However, small-cap shares can experience considerable volatility, and past returns do not guarantee future performance.
